La XXV edición del Observatorio Económico FAES, celebrado en Madrid el pasado 31 de mayo de 2011, contó con la participación de Juan Velarde, Juergen Donges, Antonio Torrero, Pedro Reis y Pedro Schwartz. En él se plantearon los actuales problemas de competitividad y de crisis de deuda soberana en algunos países de la Unión Monetaria europea con especial hincapié en la diferente situación de España y de Portugal.

FAES 24th Economic Observatory, held in Madrid last March 3, 2011, was attended by Juan Velarde, Juan José Toribio, Fernando Fernandez and José Luis Feito. It addressed the need for reform and recapitalization of the Savings Banks in Spain in order to alleviate the lack of credit available to families and businesses and which is becoming a serious obstacle to economic recovery in Spain. Furthermore, it addressed the need to improve the efficiency of the entire financial system and to resize the sector.

Last April 8, the 22nd Edition of the FAES Economic Observatory which was held in Tarragona, focused on addressing the “Energy Challenges before Spain and the EU”. The meeting was introduced by Alejandro Fernández, and invited speakers were Ana Palacio, Guillermo Velarde and Joaquín Trigo. The lecturers addressed the energy challenges awaiting Spain, Europe and the rest of the world with rigor and depth. This highlighted the importance of the energy debate abandoning in Spain the field of an irresponsible and partisan ideology which, using irrational fears, only contributes to aggravate the competitiveness crisis of the Spanish economy. Nuclear energy is not the solution to the energy problem in Spain, in the EU, and in the rest of the world, but without it, the energy equation has no solution.e

El 23 de octubre de 2009 tuvo lugar en Málaga la XX edición del Observatorio Económico FAES, titulado “Menos impuestos para salir de la crisis y crear empleo”. La reunión fue presentada por Javier Arenas, presidente del Partido Popular de Andalucía y vicesecretario de Política Territorial del PP. En el Observatorio se contó con la participación de Juan Velarde, presidente del Observatorio y Premio Príncipe de Asturias de Ciencias Sociales; Lorenzo Bernaldo de Quirós, presidente de Freemarket International Consulting; Fernando Fernández, profesor de Economía en el Instituto de Empresa, y Joaquín Trigo, director ejecutivo de Fomento del Trabajo Nacional. Los ponentes abordaron con rigor y profundidad los retos del desempleo en Andalucía y en el resto de España. Las ideas expuestas a lo largo del Observatorio por los expertos pusieron de manifiesto la necesidad de que en España se lleven a cabo urgentemente políticas dirigidas hacia la recuperación de la crisis que está lastrando la competitividad del sistema productivo español y creando graves problemas sociales.
