Introduction by José María Aznar

The FAES Foundation for Social Studies and Analysis is an institution dedicated to serving Spain and the concept of individual freedom. Political freedom, economic freedom and intellectual freedom.

FAES exists to reflect upon the world in which we live and to seek new solutions to problems. I firmly believe that political action, genuine political action that will benefit citizens, can only come about through ideas based on values and principles.

Our aim is that the FAES foundation increasingly be seen as a point of reference, both in Spain and abroad. A point of reference for all who are prepared to think seriously, in depth and without prejudices, raising their sights above the conventions of political correctness.

Through intellectual reflection, FAES seeks to help the western concepts of freedom, democracy and humanism permeate public opinion, inform the reformist centre’s programmes of political action and help Spain strive to be one of the world’s finest democracies. A liberal democracy proud to be part of the West, that defends western values and the western way of life. This is why we at FAES defend the alliance with the liberal democracies in Europe and America that share our values.
