/30.04.13/.- José María Aznar stated that “In a global scenario where competition runs rife the best way forward is to move closer: closer together and closer to the values that distinguish us” and added “Let us make the Atlantic a true cradle for freedom, democracy, stability and prosperity in the world”. Aznar delivered these statements during the presentation of the FAES report TAFTA. The Case for an Open Transatlantic Free Trade Area in Washington, which updates the Foundation’s proposal to create a free trade area between Europe and the United States. “That is what the Atlantic alliance is about: about working together to better face the fundamental challenges the 21st Century has in store”, he said.

Aznar and Macri open the ‘1st FAES Forum on Latin America’ in Buenos Aires

/04.12.13/.- José María Aznar and Mauricio Macri, head of the Government of the autonomous city of Buenos Aires, have opened the ‘1st FAES Forum on Latin America’ in the Argentinean capital, with the participation of 80 political leaders, economic experts, intellectuals and scholars from Europe, Latin America and the United States. The Forum has focused on three major topics: democracy, institutions and the Rule of Law; parties and political action; and economy and civil society.

/08.04.13/.- José María Aznar has expressed his deepest sorrow over the death of Margaret Thatcher, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. He stressed his conviction that her “reforming energy and passion for freedom are her greatest legacy". In his opinion, “Margaret Thatcher is undeniably one of the main political figures of the 20th century. She was an example of conviction, courage and had to be ability to respond to any challenge. She was, indeed, one of the strongest and most courageous advocates of freedom of the past century”.

/04.02.13./- José María Aznar, former Prime Minister of Spain and president of FAES Foundation, participated on Monday, February 4, in the presentation of the documentary archive on Gregorio Ordoñez in Madrid, murdered 18 years ago by the terrorist group ETA. This archive gathers and asserts the legacy of the fight for freedom and against terrorism initiated by the man that used to be councillor of the PP in San Sebastián and MP representing Guipúzcoa in the Basque Parliament. Organized by FAES and the Gregorio Ordoñez Foundation, the event also hosted as speakers the former mayor of Lizarza Regina Otaola, and Ana Iribar, the widow of the former popular leader, who is also the president of the Ordoñez Foundation.

These include the celebration of events such as the Ceremony granting the IV FAES Freedom Award to Mario Vargas Llosa; the ninth edition of the FAES Campus and its counterparts in Argentina, Colombia, Central America and the Caribbean and Peru; and the publishing and launching of the reports Rescuing the Euro, El mito fiscal. Razones para un debate and Latin America. An Agenda for Freedom 2012. Furthermore, FAES has published the four annual editions of its journal Cuadernos de Pensamiento Político, six FAES Papers and, through its imprint Gota a Gota, three new books.
